Summer Fresh <> Farmers Market Guide

The sun is out and shining (finally) and the produce lining the rows of the local farmers markets look more appealing than ever. But which items are worth you taking a trip to the ATM? We are breaking down the best summer produce as well as what items you should try your best to buy organic:

  • Salad Greens
  • Cucumbers
  • Summer Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Corn
  • Beets
  • Eggplant
  • Okra

  • Apricots
  • Blueberries
  • Blackberries
  • Nectarines
  • Melons

Don’t be afraid to ask the farmers at the booth about their growing practices, which produce is freshest, etc. It is so nice to learn about where you food is coming from and how it is grown. Feel like you are pushing your budget trying to purchase just organic? Not to fret. EWG compiles a comprehensive list each year outlining the “dirty dozen,” produce that should ALWAYS be purchased organic and the “clean fifteen” that you can feel comfortable buying conventional.

Fun Fact: Don't store your fruit and fresh vegetables together (i.e in the same fridge drawer)
